OVERVIEW

The skatepark was developed as part of the broader 9-acre Stephen Day Neighborhood Park, which officially opened on July 26, 2005. The City of Longmont managed the master planning process, while Fort Collins-based landscape architecture firm BHA Design Inc. led the overall park layout around an interactive “Voyager and Explorer” theme. Fisher Construction Inc. served as the primary contractor that physically built the park and its integrated concrete amenities. Although municipal leadership drove the project, residents and neighborhood children actively participated in public design workshops. Their handprints remain permanently pressed into the walkway near the park restrooms. The park honors Stephen Wayne Day, a Longmont native and U.S. Army Private First Class who was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Bronze Star for heroism during the Vietnam War.
