📚 THE STORY BEHIND THE PARK: (click here to read more)

Spanning an impressive 50,000 sq.ft. next to the Apex Recreation Center, the Arvada APEX Skatepark is one of the largest concrete skateparks in the United States. Built in 2012 by Team Pain Skateparks, this world-class facility was developed in a city where Lewis Ralston made the first documented gold discovery along Ralston Creek in 1850. Arvada later became known as the “Celery Capital of the World.” Over time, it evolved into a thriving suburb of Denver.

The creation of the skatepark was the result of a passionate grassroots effort led by local skateboarding legend Dave Tuck and his wife, Emily. They rallied local youth, organized petitions, and worked closely with city officials and the Apex Park and Recreation District to bring a modern, destination-level skatepark to Arvada.

The true spirit of the skatepark is embodied in the story of Dave Tuck, the beloved pioneer often referred to as the Mayor of Arvada. Diagnosed with cancer during the skatepark’s construction, Dave refused to step back. He joined the Team Pain crew on-site, working through his illness to help hand-lay pool coping, ensuring that the park would meet high standards for future generations. After his passing in 2013, the skateboarding community honored his memory by embedding tributes into the concrete. A replica of the iconic wooden Hangar bowl that Dave skated in Charleston, SC, during the 1990s is now part of the park. If you look closely, you will also find a permanent tile heart mosaic embedded in the deck as a tribute to his unwavering dedication.

The skatepark is thoughtfully designed with distinct zones, catering to both street and transition skaters. Transition riders can choose from a beginner-friendly mini-ramp, a flowy bowl with pool coping and a large banked wall, or tackle the massive Snake Run, which features a doorway channel and a huge 13-foot deep end that leads to the twelve-foot-deep replica Hangar bowl. The plaza area is perfect for street skaters, offering three-stair and seven-stair sets, handrails, hubba ledges, flat rails, and real granite and marble ledges, all interspersed with natural Colorado rock obstacles. The facility is fully equipped with lights, allowing skating sessions to continue until 10:00 PM, ensuring a vibrant flow of energy throughout the park.

The Arvada APEX Skatepark is a true haven for skatepark enthusiasts across the Front Range and beyond. It perfectly balances high-end technical design with a rich historical narrative, providing a variety of challenges for both beginners and seasoned pros. More than just a collection of stairs, ledges, and deep bowls, it stands as a testament to community perseverance and the enduring legacy of Dave Tuck. Whether you’re dropping into the deep end or skating the street plaza under the night lights, riding here offers an experience at one of the finest skateparks ever built.
