Howard Heuston Park, named in honor of Dr. Howard O. Heuston was a prominent local physician and former Mayor of Boulder during the Great Depression. Originally established during the mid-20th century residential expansion, the park underwent significant modernization in the summer of 2021. The centerpiece of this upgrade is a sleek, flow-oriented skatepark designed by Evergreen Skateparks. Covering approximately 3,500 sq.ft., this smooth concrete skatepark replaces traditional street rails and blocky ledges with organic pump-track geometry. It features two interconnected half-moon bowl pockets, rolling speed mounds, smooth transition hips, and a central volcano. This design allows riders to pump continuously, maintain speed without pushing, and carve endless lines across seamless curves. The city successfully balances its historic open space legacy with modern park design. By integrating Evergreen’s signature organic curves into its historic municipal grounds, Howard Heuston Park exemplifies local park planning and serves as an fun destination within the neighborhood.
