Brighton, founded in 1879 as a stagecoach stop and agricultural depot along the South Platte River, initially served as a central trading hub for nearby sugar beet and cabbage farms before becoming the seat of Adams County. The municipal skate park, located along Judicial Center Drive, holds a special place in action sports history due to its namesake, Brian Aragon. Raised in Brighton, Aragon achieved international recognition as a multi-time world champion aggressive inline skater, dominating major global competitions throughout the 2000s and early 2010s. The city dedicated the park in his honor to celebrate his achievements and to inspire local action sports athletes across the Denver metropolitan area. Designed by SITE Design Group, the Brian Aragon Skate Park covers 14,000 sq.ft. of poured concrete engineered for speed and flow. With overhead lighting for evening sessions, the facility features a street plaza loaded with hubba ledges, flat bars, handrails, and stair sets, as well as an expansive transition complex. Deep bowl riders can choose between a pool-style bowl with pool coping and accent tiles or a large flow bowl equipped with a unique oververt pocket and a roll-in entry point that allows riders to maintain heavy speed without dropping in. The smooth concrete layout and distinct transition features make this regional park a favorite destination for skaters, bladers, and BMX riders throughout northern Colorado.
