📚 THE STORY BEHIND THE PARK: (click here to read more)
Berthoud, located in the Little Thompson River valley within Larimer and Weld counties, was established in the late nineteenth century. It was named in honor of Captain Edward L. Berthoud, the chief engineer for the Colorado Central Railroad, who surveyed the rail passage through the region. The surrounding agricultural land quickly transformed the town into a prosperous farming hub, renowned for its sugar beet harvests, grain production, and historic architecture, earning the nickname “Garden Spot of Colorado.”
Situated on North Berthoud Parkway, Waggener Farm Park occupies land with deep agricultural roots tied to the Waggener family. For decades, this multi-generational farming family cultivated crops such as corn, alfalfa, and barley. They partnered with local leaders to preserve the scenic area and convert part of their historic farmstead into a modern civic park and recreation campus. Opened in November 2021, the Waggener Farm Skatepark offers a contemporary 15,000 sq.ft. poured-concrete facility designed by Pivot Custom Designs. The skatepark caters to both transition flow and technical progression, featuring a medium-sized flow bowl with a spine transfer, an integrated boulder obstacle, and a tombstone extension. Surrounding the bowl, the expansive street course includes a euro gap, pole jam, flatbars, grind ledges, a hubba, handrail, and stair sets. Equipped with overhead lighting that remains on until late evening, this well-maintained park in the Front Range provides continuous skating lines and clear views of Longs Peak, making it a popular destination for skaters, inline skaters, and BMX riders throughout northern Colorado.
