📚 THE STORY BEHIND THE PARK: (click here to read more)
Located on Colorado’s Eastern Plains along the historic South Platte River corridor, Brush has roots that trace back to the 1880s when it served as a crucial cattle-shipping depot on the Burlington and Missouri Railroad. The town was named in honor of Jared L. Brush, a pioneering Colorado cattleman and Lieutenant Governor who played a significant role in its founding and helped organize its first Fourth of July rodeo in 1884. Local folklore also shares an amusing alternative origin story, suggesting that an early official named the settlement after the brush he was using to groom his horse. In a unique display of community spirit, the town officially added an exclamation point to its name, rendering it as “Brush!” to reflect the locals’ enthusiasm. Nestled within the city’s park system, Pioneer Skate Park is situated near the heart of the municipal recreation grounds, providing local youth with a dedicated space for skating next to the historic fairgrounds.
Opened in 2014, Pioneer Skate Park features a smooth, modern all-concrete surface for skaters passing through Morgan County. Its layout cleverly combines approachable street terrain with smooth transition features, optimizing the limited space available. Skaters can enjoy a variety of low quarter pipes, bank ramps, flatbars, grind ledges, and a central funbox setup, allowing for seamless line combinations, technical tricks, and slappy grinds. Surrounded by open prairie views and expansive Eastern Plains skies, this high-plains concrete park serves as a welcoming community hub and an ideal pit stop for road-trippers traveling along Interstate 70 and Highway 34.
