Tucked beneath the central bridge structure of the main Boulder Public Library, the GB2 Skatepark, known as Green Block II or simply the Library, is one of Colorado’s most distinctive skate spots. Located inside the Boulder Civic Area Park along the Boulder Creek Path, this 3,000 sq.ft. street plaza was designed by MAP and built by Evergreen Skateparks in early 2022. It transformed a previously neglected underpass into a vibrant skate feature. As the official sister spot to the original Green Block DIY at Valmont Park, GB2 features a sleek concrete pad with triangle ledges, manual boxes, slappy curbs, and flatbars. Because it sits directly under the elevated walkway connecting the north and south library buildings, the skatepark offers shelter from rain or snow, along with full night lighting, allowing for all-weather street skating right alongside the creek.
The main library building opened at this Arapahoe Avenue site in 1961, partially funded by historic civic expansion that traces back to early municipal investments. This city balances its deep outdoor tradition with forward-thinking civic planning, making GB2 a standout example of activating modern public spaces for skate culture.
